Impact for Boys program

Impact for Boys is a unique program, working with teenage boys with absent fathers from the ages of 17 to 20 from the communities of Mufakose, Glen View, Highfields, Budiriro and Mbare in Harare

The boys will go through a 1 year life skills training program that comprises of in class and outdoor practical life skills. Our main objective for this program is to equip these boys with skills that are likely and ideally taught by fathers in homes. Our life skills program apart from addressing paternal rejection and the social deficit left by the absent fathers will improve their capacity development and livelihoods. More so, keeping them away from drugs and substance abuse, crime, deviant and retrogressive behaviours as they are tailor made to address the total transformation of the total person. We equip them with entrepreneurship skills, financial intelligence, career development, gender issues and relationship skills just to mention but a few.

In between the program, a lot of activities are lined up including awareness campaigns in each of the communities stated above, advocating for absent fathers to step up, reconcile with their children and also for family members to be accountable to each other as far as child care is concerned. More so, there will be outdoor annual retreats, community clean up campaigns, reality check visits to the prisons and clinics and talent showcasing. The organisation also assists mothers whose children in the program do not have birth certificates and identification documents.

At the end of the program, the organisation will assist the participants in attaining driver’s licence. The mothers of these boys are not spared, as we also empower them with entrepreneurship skills, adult life skills and income generating projects, resulting in them being economically self-sustained and independent.

As an extension of the program, we took an initiative of working with churches in Mufakose to address the fatherlessness pandemic and encourage families not to discriminate against children born out of wedlock. The church engagement program targets all members of the family including the girl child on psycho-social support.
